This is a 15 passenger van which has 4 bench seats behind the front seats.  Elder Ostberg was seated on the far back bench by the rear window; he was covered with glass and some of the glass went into his right eye; the bullet passed by him on his right side.  He commented that he heard the bullet pass by his head.  Elders Knowlton and Nelson were sitting on the next seat forward and the bullet passed between them.  Elder Walker (the only Jamaican Elder in the van) was seated on the third seat forward (the middle of the five rows in the van) and was struck in the left temple by the bullet.

Email from Spanish Town

hey whats up? im in spanish town right now emailing we came down here and played football today it was fun. way way hot though! this week has been pretty good. tuesday was just another day as a missionary wednesday the same thing lol. thursday we went to kingston for a zone conference............. well after the meeting we went to TGI fridays and ate i just got dessert



cuz we had a dinner appointment later on. well we didnt make it back in time for the dinner traffic was horrible and we got back in linstead at 9. friday we just planned and went and taught some lessons saturday we came to spanish town for district conference we were here all day then sunday was the sunday session of it so this week has been really laid back but i dont know what else happened oh yes last night we went to a members friends house Sister chandler told us she wanted a blessing so we went there and we taught her about the restoration. well i was losing my voice cuz i have had a sore throat so i just quit talking. well then i asked if she wanted the blessing she said yes. wilson was like you wanna give it? i was like she can pick. her mom said you do it pointing at me so i said ok hopefully my throat will not go scratchy. i started my throat was killing i was thinking there is no way im making it through this. then BAM my voice cleared up it was so crazy i gave her the blessing then once i ended it my voice went right back to being scratchy it was crazy!!!!! but ya thats about all that happened lol or all i can remember! well i love you hope your having a good time in AZ. hey look for elder ware in phoenix thats where he is you know my mtc companion. i love ya stetson

holy cow a missionary got shot today. right after our football game they went through spanish town and the mission bus got hit and a bullet hit elder walker and he got killed that is so freaky. gosh dang people they just shoot they dont aim. ugh thats crazy!....i probably shouldnt of said that now your gonna be freakin out. well my time is almost up i love you all take care!

"Elder Jermaine Luther Walker from Kingston, Jamaica--serving in the Jamaica Kingston Mission--was killed today. He was shot by a stray bullet while he and seven other missionaries were returning to their apartments after a preparation-day activity. It appears the van they were in was caught in the crossfire as local police were pursuing another vehicle. Elder Walker was immediately driven to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead."

Wow another week! its crazy no matter how slow the week seems every monday i look back and say man it just seems like yesterday i was in this cafe emailing! well to answer some of your questions. Yes, all the christmas presents were unwrapped lol everything was pretty much open. well lets see how was the week? well first off monday: after we emailed and shopped and did all that stuff we cleaned the house then i went and took a nap i was tired. well i heard the phone ring so it woke me up. i heard el wilson say ya hold on so i knew it was for me he was like its elder allen, he is an assistant to the president. so i talked to him he said elder montgomery we need you to come to Kingston on thursday for the mission leadership meeting. I was shocked reason #1 i dont have any leadership #2 does this mean im gonna have some lol i was kinda freakin out so that was on my mind for the next couple days. tuesday didnt have much to say lol kinda boring then wednesday we had district meeting. its just not the same without the rest of the trinity there lol. but it was still fun we went out and ate after wards then we came back to linstead. at about 5 we were walking back from commodore. its a town by linstead well i dont know if its a town but its an area lol. and we had just crossed the highway and a car was honking like crazy i didnt pay any attention to it but wilson did he was like thats one of the senior couples. so we continued on. well the honking was behind us again so i turned around and there was randle with his head sticking out of the window i was like what the world are you doing? he said oh we gotta go to some meeting tomorrow hahaha i was like ME TOOO he was like why? i said no clue. so we were both wondering why we were there. well they left and we went on our way. well thursday morning we woke up at 5:30 so we could be in spanish town by 8. well we got there met the zone leaders and took wilson to poulsens and roberts house and we picked up roberts cuz he is the district leader and he was going. so then we head to kingston. when we get there all the zone leaders and district leaders pretty much any one with leadership was there. so i go sit by peterson and randle. we sat through the meeting all day well till about 4. then when it was over we just left still not knowing why we were there. but something must be up. haha but who knows. friday was its usual super planning and then we went to commodore again. a guy was chatting at me calling me all sorts of dumb jamaican cuss words. man he ticks me off. everytime we walk by him he says something to us. then on sunday we just went to church then back to commodore after that but ya nothing much exciting happened! still no baptisms coming up everyone is kinda stuck cuz they live with someone or something. but hopefully we can get someone before the transfer ends. i think it ends february 9. so we still got some time. but any how thats about it. next monday i think were going to spanish town to play football so my email might be later in the afternoon. well love you all! stetson

christmas was so cool gettin to talk to everyone and then to skype that was awesome!!!! our week was boring everything was all closed up on monday except for the bars and one store so we atleast got to go shopping then we cleaned the house haha but then p day ended at 1.  we went to the christmas party at the church and we just hung out there till about 7. it was good but people behind us talked the whole time it was so rude couldnt hear anything cuz they were so loud!!! i felt bad for those kids.
they have been practicing for long time and then people dont even watch!!! 

 i had a horrible migrane and that was no good and then after the party we went to see some people but they werent home so we just went to a resturant and bought a cup and sat by the pop machine and killed some time then we went home but ya nothing to exciting happened but i m just glad i got to hear from everyone on christmas!!!

i was yammin some food mi a starve!" i cant believe another week is here already its crazy the week seemed to go by slow. it has been really hot here!!!! our new years was ok i guess we were supposed to be in the house by 6 President didnt want us out on the streets after that. well we went to a birthday party for a members daughter and her nephew so we were there till about ? whoops lol but it was in bog walk and they had an awesome view of everything. she lives up on a hill and you could see bog walk below us and the river it was pretty....

anyhow i had to move computers i was sitting in the sun and i was roasting so i had to send that email then change but any how we were at the birthday and we told the lady that we had to be in at 6 well i didnt realize it was already 5:45 so she got us some food then some cake and ice cream

 by the time we left it was about ? (ha) so we got home at about ? (ha) when we got home i felt like crap i was tired. well we stayed up till 12 playing battle ship and then after that we went to bed i tossed and turned all night only got about an hour two of sleep! the next morning i got up and drank more pepto and then we headed out ugh what a long day that was when we came home from lunch i went straight to my bed. tried to take a nap but it didnt really work. then we had to go back out again sheesh! but by that evening i was feeling better so that was good. i dont think it was the flu maybe just something i ate...

i got an email from elder randle he said he misses spanish town. he said you know how we always wanted to go to ochi or mo bay or negril, well he says they are cool to look at and there is some cool stuff but it is the worst place to be a missionary. he said he misses the trinity (peterson, me and randle) so do i. we use to talk all the time but now that they got transfered we can't. anyhow saturday was slow and quiet everything was closed. then sunday we went to church it was like a race to the podeum when pres barrett invited everyone up to bear their testimony i had to wait forever for a chance to go up but i finally did! only one of our investigators was there the others we went and seen them in deeside after church they had some lame excuses... sotheir baptism dates arent looking good. We havent seen Naketa i dont know what her deal is then Vivine she still lives with her boyfriend but brother grant is praying about a date he is the one who has been coming to church for about 3 years and still isnt baptized and then we have john them 2 are probably the closest we have at the time but who knows when they will be!! but other than that nothing really happened this week!! but im gonna need new socks again the ones you sent last time already have holes in them elder randle had some new balance ones that were really nice he said it had new balance across the toes but who knows they just need to be like an athletic sock so that way they are thicker! but i also like the nike socks that bai used for basketball the are at fred meyers. and a new jump rope please the one i got it keeps breaking the cord rubs on the handles and it breaks! i havent got you pretzel package yet probaly get it this week or next who knows. wow its 12 degrees thats crazy!!!! i cut my own hair on friday night haha that was exciting the clippers i bought only had 4 gaurds and the ones i had were to big well it ended up shorter than i wanted it but oh well it looks ok. i ve gotten compliments about it so thats a good sign. lol  anyhow i think thats about it well thats all for right now any how i might remember something else. lol im always prayin for ya.

any how this week was pretty good i got to go on a trade off with elder peterson and i bought some new shoes. i dont know if i told you about Naketa. anyhow she was one of our best investigators but she kept calling and cancelling our appointments so we pretty much dropped her. well tuesday night we got a text on our phone that said hi this is Naketa can you come by tomorrow so we can have a lesson? i was shocked so i called her set up at time for thursday. me and elder peterson went up there and the lesson was awesome i extended her a baptism date and everything it was so cool she is a really good investigator!! we also have Vivine her sister is a member and she should be to she is way ready and knows everything BUT she lives with a guy ...and all that so that sucks cuz we cant baptize her unless one moves out or they get married so she is stuck!!! me and elder peterson made that pumpkin pie we used vanilla wafers for our crust we just smashed them up and wa la it was so good! but it was a fun trade off!!! i have some more stuff to send for christmas but i ran out of money so i couldnt send it but hopefully i can do that soon. but the rest of the week went pretty good nothing really exciting happened i have been so tired when its time to go home. man im draggin my butt and then the mornings come way to fast and then its the same all over again! Thursday i got a call from our branch president he wanted me to tell wilson that he wanted him to give a talk on sunday. so i told him. then i said to randle and peterson man im glad im not new in the area they always make you give a talk well sunday president barrett came up to me and said guess what? i need you to bear your testimony on service for me. ugh! talk about being put on the spot lol but it went good dont remember what i said but it sounded good at the time! then i was tellin peterson about that and he said ya it sucks to be a new missionary in the area but when you've been there a while they dont even give you a heads up they just call you up lol it was funny!!! this friday is our christmas party every zone has to do a skit we are doing the nativity scene but we are gonna spice it up with sayings from different movies to make it like a comedy it should be fun!! but any how thats about it!!! PS HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANNY now you really are one so you cant get mad anymore when i call you that hahaha well love ya

Just like that another week is gone...

hey! our christmas party is on the 24th. i think we can open the packages there or we can bring them home and open them at home. i think its up to us! ..and calling home ive heard two ways. i can call you and you call back or i can buy a 1000 dollars of credit and that will give me a 1000 minutes of international calling time and i just call you so either way i dont know which is one cheaper! i will prolly call and you call back. 

 i think i can call Lauren or if you want she can come to your house. either way its up to you guys there!

i did buy the guitar. its sweet! 

its all black and it has palm trees around the circle thingy lol i still have to get it tuned. i have to get the electric tuner from randle so i can do that. 

this week was good. wednesday i went on a trade off after district meeting with El Randle! all i can say is when we finally get to serve together we are gonna be awesome lol we just teach so good together and the lessons just flow. we have a blast while teaching and it just makes everything so fun and i cant wait until we serve together...

well i hope we do i mean i got my fingers crossed.

we had a birthday party for me and elder peterson wednesday night. we made cake and had ice cream and we ate that and it was fun! then el peterson had to leave so me and randle played pin the tail on the donkey and then took pics of stuff and went and got pics of his neighbors christmas lights! then we stayed up just talking it was fun! the next day first thing when we were riding to the church randle was riding with no hands and then his bike went one way and he went the other haha it was like slow motion. he like looked at me then BAM!!! he hit so hard. my gosh it was so funny! then we went and bought the guitar and then we were walking to the mall to wait on wilson and roberts to get there so we could trade back. well freakin randle slips on some oil on the road. my guitar hits the ground.
 
 gee crazy kid! i knew we should of said a prayer before we left the house hahaha we were joking about that the whole day that thats what caused all the accidents was buying the guitar.
it was fun! then we had to trade back and when we got back i was like bummed cuz they have really good investigators and we dont and when you have good investigators it just makes everything so much better and i was just doggy feeling. 

but when we got to Vivine's and brians house we taught them and then i just went for it and extended them a baptism date and they both accepted it. it was cool and when we left we found new investigators and everything just got way better! then on friday we went to bambury to see bro miller we talked with him 

then we went to friday night activity and only a couple people showed up but we played checkers and ping pong. i was the checkers champion lol then we went outside to leave and a guy from the kingston branch was all mad at the kids playing on the soccer field. so i had to be the bad guy and run them off. they were all mad at me! i think its better that they are playing soccer rather than out makin trouble. so the next night they were there again so i walked up and they had looks on there face like crap we gotta go! but i called one over and said just make sure you shut the lights out when your done and then they were all excited! lol but ya sunday we got drenched walking to deeside and when we got there sister grant made us dinner and right after that we had to go to sister robinsons for dinner. ugh!! two in a row i about died. i was so full it was crazy! but just like that another week is gone. crazy! transfers are on the 29th so comin up fast! well i gotta write president hendricks. ok later!

Non Stop Sweat...Roping Dummy...and Guitars

well yes i got my thanksgiving package! so thats good. sounds as if everything is going good down there besides the cold weather. its been pretty hot here. ugh non stop sweat and when you walk a couple miles your toasted. lol but today we went to portmore to play basketball. it was fun but really hot. we (spanish town zone) got our butts kicked by kingston zone we played 8 games to 11 it was so hot and man i about died. lol they have some kids that have played a little college ball so its not fair but we came back and won a couple at the end it was fun though! we won 3 of the 8 games!

i cant believe that its almost christmas its so crazy to think about it. sheesh. lets see this week was ok nothing really special happened. we are just trying to find some new people so that we can have more investigators. just when you think you have a good one it all goes south ugh. Naketa was doing so good and now we havent seen her for about 2 weeks. she keeps calling and cancelling darn it. but we met a lady named Raquel she is cool she lives just down the road from us she is very interested and her 10 year old son is to. he came to the christmas devotional with us. he is a cool kid and so hopefully things keep going good! i cant really remember what else happened hmmmm did i ever tell you i made a roping dummy????

well i did. i used the bottom of a chair and a bike helment and a piece of pvc pipe haha it works pretty good! i also taught bro. blake (tara's husband) how to rope he caught on super fast. he was running around at the friday night activity roping everyone it was funny! i might have to leave one of those ropes here when i leave..

i dont want to leave Linstead though. it is so cool and the members are so cool. as for the christmas program i have no idea what we are gonna do for our skit. i dont know if we will be at the party cuz we are having our mission one the same day. so i dont know about it. the ohter day a guy yelled at me for not buying an orange from him he was following me yelling at me on the street so i turned and said listen i dont have any money or i would buy one to make you happy but i dont have any so beat it. hahaha i hate when they chat at you elder wilson is good at just walking away not me i always chat back hahaha its fun! oh ya i spent some money off my card. i was running low on my mission card so i took some out. elder randle and peterson bought guitars and they are trying to talk me into it to buying one. its like 17000 jamaican $.  i dont know how much that is in american...elder randle said he would be my bank and loan me half. lol  im still kickin it around. i gotta make up my mind by wednesday though im going on a trade off with elder randle in spanish town so we are gonna go and check them out. we talk on the phone almost every night and they are always playing them. it sounds fun. but who knows what i'll do. lol but ya everything is going good here just tryin to get people baptized so i can go swimming again. hey gretchen took some pictures at the branding last spring see if you can get some of the pictures from her and send some my way thanks. ummmm i dunno. i can't think of anything i need right now i always remember something right when i walk out the door though. lol time is up I LOVE YOU!!!!!
